Health Information Technology or Medical Billing and Coding?

Do you want to work in healthcare, but have all the benefits of an office environment? YTI Career Institute's Health Information Technology and Medical Billing and Coding programs prepare graduates to provide quality patient care in administrative roles. But what are the differences in these programs and which can lead to the right career for you?

Health Information Technology

Students in YTI Career Institute's Health Information Technology program are taught how to gather, analyze and disseminate health information. In this 21-month program, students are provided learning opportunities in all areas of health information; including legal aspects of health information, medical coding and billing, data analysis and the revenue cycle. The program content is built on the rigorous standards of CAHIIM (The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education). This accreditation allows our students to sit for the RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) exam upon successful completion of their program. Certification is key to advancement in this industry. Graduates of YTI's Health Information Technology program earn an Associate in Specialized Technology degree.

Medical Billing and Coding

As a specialty field within health information management, YTI Career Institute's Medical Billing and Coding program focuses on medical billing and coding functions through various billing, coding and classification systems courses. In this 12-month program, students learn the concepts of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. They learn scheduling and front-office computer functions, and how to communicate professionally with healthcare providers and patients. After graduation, students may earn a coding certification through the AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders). Graduates of YTI's Medical Billing and Coding program earn a diploma.
