Electrical Technology Program Overview

Contractors and companies of all sizes are looking for experienced, skilled electrical technicians. Electricians with the right knowledge and skill to complete the toughest jobs on time. Certified technicians that work safely, within required regulations, and with long term employment as their goal.

From specialty trade contractors to communications companies, today's Electrical Technicians can work for a variety of employers. Many Electricians work for residential contractors or commercial builders. Day to day job duties may include; reading electrical blueprints, wiring and installation of junction boxes, outlet boxes and lighting.

Manufacturing companies and factories also employ electricians to install and maintain their complex electrical equipment and machinery. Communications and technology companies utilize technicians to install various types of cable, splice and prepare cable connections, and test signal efficiencies. Additional employment opportunities may include; security companies, home improvement and home entertainment installation, civil traffic departments, healthcare facilities, and more.

How to use hand and power tools
OSHA regulations
National Electrical Code standards
Electrical safety including confined space entry, respiratory protection, fall prevention and protection, grounding, isolation and electrical safety hazards
Electrical fundamentals including Ohm's Law, power formula, circuits, test equipment, meter polarity, Kirchoff's Voltage Law and Kirchoff's Current Law
Basic circuits including series circuit, parallel circuit and series-parallel circuit
How to handle and install conduit
Cable preparation, cable ends, belt torque, crimping techniques splicing techniques and NEC regulations
How to read electrical blueprints including how to identify information included in electrical specifications, interpreting site plans, floor plans and detailed drawings
Residential and commercial wiring including installation and control of lighting fixtures, grounding conductors, ground fault circuit interrupters, outlet box selection, electric space heating installation and pool, spa and hot tub installation
How to select, size and install wiring devises, raceways, outlet boxes, pull boxes and junction boxes
Electric lighting including suspended, recessed, surface-mounted and track mounted lighting fixtures and the operation of sensors, photoelectric sensors and timers
